The internet is a ruthless place for it doesn’t take plagiarism lightly. The latest to feel the heat was filmmaker A.R. Murugadoss.

The 41-second first-look motion poster of his highly anticipated flick with actor Vijay, titled ‘Kaththi’, Twitterverse alleged, closely resembles the popular minute-long advertisement campaign run by Turkish newspaper, Sabah, to announce their distributing New York Times as a supplement.

The original advertisement features iconic images of the New York City and Istanbul, designed using news articles and headlines from the newspaper (The idea being to imagine a city made up of newspaper clippings).

The motion poster of ‘Kaththi’ imagines prominent landmarks of Chennai in the form of newspaper clippings and headlines, just like the advertisement campaign run by the Turkish newspaper, without an acknowledgement to the makers of the original.  

Previously, a poster from A.R. Murugadoss’ last Tamil film with actor Vijay, ‘Thuppakki’, was said to have an unmistakable resemblance to the poster of the Richard Gere starrer ‘An Officer and a Gentleman’.
