Chennai Corporation councillors on Monday demanded the speedy completion of works on cement concrete roads and other incomplete road projects across the city.
Councillor Pratap Kumar of George Town said a number of cement concrete roads were incomplete for the past six months.
“This has caused hardship to pedestrians and motorists. Residents want the civic body to complete work on paver blocks on the sides of the road,” said Mr. Kumar.
Stressing the need for road restoration on interior stretches, Councillor Ezhilarasi of Thiruvottiyur zone said 95 per cent of the sewer network works on roads has been completed.
“Over 20 per cent of the roads have been handed over for restoration,” she said.
Following the demands by councillors, Mayor Saidai Duraisamy announced that the works will be completed by March.
The Corporation Council also passed a resolution on Monday for obtaining a loan of Rs. 2,000 crore from the Indian Bank for implementing road works and other infrastructure projects.
Bus routes to be strengthened
“As many as 183 bus routes will be strengthened with camber correction at a cost of Rs. 468.54 crore,” said an official.
