31-year-old Seethalakshmi has been in a coma from March following a botched surgery

C. Subramanian, the 39-year-old daily-wage labourer from Kanyakumari, whose wife S. Seethalakshmi is in a coma, and currently being treated at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, is planning to submit a petition to the health department and the hospital, asking for his wife to be taken care of while he goes back to his hometown to visit their two children.

“My children are only six and eight, and I have to go home to look after them. I will come to the hospital every 15 days. While I’m not there, I would like the hospital to take good care of my wife. I am planning to submit this in a petition to the health secretary and the hospital dean,” said Mr. Subramanian on Friday.

In May, Mr. Subramanian had petitioned the government to allow euthanasia for his 31-year-old wife who has been in a coma from March following a botched surgery at a government hospital. Following this, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa announced the setting up of a special medical team to look into his wife’s care and assistance to the tune of Rs. 5 lakh.

Mr. Subramanian said his children are currently being taken care of by his aged mother, and that he needs to go back to look after them.

Hospital authorities said they are giving the best possible treatment to Ms. Seethalakshmi. “We have received Mr. Subramanian’s petition. We have posted three staff nurses who look after her round-the-clock. There is no change in her condition, but we will continue to treat her to the best of our abilities,” said a senior hospital official.
