Intruders nabbed at Stanley hospital

Two former students were held while they were searching for drugs and syringes

May 22, 2014 08:38 am | Updated 08:38 am IST - CHENNAI:

Authorities of Government Stanley Medical College handed over two persons to the police after they entered the casualty ward on Tuesday night, allegedly to take medication and syringes. However, no case was registered after hospital authorities told police that they will initiate action against the duo, police said.

The duo were former students of the college who had not completed the course. A hospital official said they entered the casualty ward at about 10.30 p.m. in search of narcotic drugs used for medical purposes.

“They were wearing doctors’ coats and so, nobody suspected anything initially. But the staff nurse grew suspicious and asked them for their identity cards. As they did not have the cards, we handed them over to the police at the hospital’s outpost,” he said.

Police said the duo had also searched for syringes. “We did not book them as the hospital authorities said they will initiate action,” a policeman attached to the outpost said.

However, hospital dean A.L. Meenakshi Sundaram maintained that no such incident had occurred at the hospital.
