Cancer awareness website launched

August 17, 2014 07:54 am | Updated 07:54 am IST - CHENNAI:

The oncology unit of the Sri Ramachandra Medical College has launched a website to spread the word that it is possible to have a normal life after cancer.

“In other countries, there are a number of websites that bring together cancer survivors and act as a platform for them to share their success stories and discuss their problems. There is a need for a similar website in India as well,” head of the oncology unit Anita Ramesh said.

Users will be able to connect to each other, share experiences and soon, there will be a ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ section as well, she said.

“The idea is to help people realise that there is a good chance of survival with cancer and for patients to realise that there are hundreds of people who have survived the disease,” she said.

The website, www.freedom fromcancer.org, was launched on Friday.
