The fourth edition of the Short and Sweet Theatre Festival, which is currently underway at Alliance Francaise, has been attracting significant crowds for the third week in a row. The festival features ten short plays, each lasting about ten minutes,
Not only have young theatre professionals embraced the fest, accomplished filmmakers, film and television actors have also been drawn.
Director Naga, well known for making the popular television series ‘Marmadesam’, participated in the festival with his play, ‘Kitchadi Life’, adapted from his short story, ‘Mudivilla Kadhai’.
Established television artistes Shylaja Chetlur (of Cinema, Karam, Coffee fame) and Prithiviraj were also part of it. The play was about ‘missed opportunities in life of a married woman’.
For Naga, the festival reiterated his belief that there is no dearth of talent. “They just haven’t been found.” Shylaja Chetlur felt that such festivals offered the audience an opportunity to see plays from different genres. Another well-received play was ‘Sathur Sathippu,’ directed by actor Vinodhini Vaidyanathan.
Meera Krishnan, festival director, said the finals on July 27 will have 12 teams compete for the trophy. “Fifty plays were selected from over 100 submissions and have been given a chance to perform, with the audience voting to select the play of the day.”
