Emphasising the need to choose the right college, Sam George, educationist and CEO of EXTEL Academy, said only some colleges are worthwhile choices for certain courses and studying the course you want in a college that is not known for the course will be the wrong decision.

There is a need to balance interest and aptitude when it comes to career and college choices. It is only when there is a proper balance of these two factors that one can be successful, he said, speaking at The Hindu Tamil’s Vetrikodi award function for students who excelled in the Class XII examinations.

Speaking at the function, Chairperson of Vel Tech University R. Mahalakshmi said that in order to be employable by the top companies, it is important that students develop additional skills apart from what is taught in colleges.

She also emphasised the need to choose the right college and asked students to consider courses that have NBA accreditation.

Four State toppers and 26 school toppers were given awards for their excellent performance.

The top three ranks in Tamil Nadu – S. Sushanthi, A.L. Alamelu, D. Thulasirajan and S. Nitya — all received awards on the day. They were give cash prizes of Rs. 25,000, Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 10,000 and certificates and trophies.
