The comprehensive integrated master plan for developing a Chennai-Bengaluru industrial corridor is expected to be completed by March.
The project is being taken up with the assistance of Japan International Cooperation Agency, which is extending technical and financial support. Highlighting the growing interest of the Japanese government in improving infrastructure and strengthening economic ties, Masanori Nakano, consul general of Japan in Chennai, said there is an increasing presence of Japanese companies in the State.
Mr. Nakano was addressing the members of Indo-Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IJCCI) at the valedictory of its silver jubilee celebrations here on Tuesday.
Pointing out that Tamil Nadu was encouraging foreign investors through the global investors meet in 2015, he said organisations like IJCCI have a great role in acting as a link between India and Japan.
Tracing the economic, political and cultural ties between India and Japan, N. Ravi, Editor-in-Chief, The Hindu , said the recent visits of the Prime Ministers of both countries have helped to bring investment to India. There are obvious areas of collaboration beyond the automobile and electronics sectors. The Indian strength in software could be combined with Japanese strength in hardware and also in renewable energy such as solar energy,” he said.
He also lauded IJCCI and its president N.Krishnaswami for their commitment towards closer Indo-Japan ties.
Hidehiro Ishirura, director-general of Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), Chennai and Mr Krishnaswami also spoke.
