A total of 9,500 candidates participated in a two-day job fair organised by The Hindu Empower and shine.com, in association with Sutherland and CSS Corp that started at Chennai Trade Centre on Saturday.
A number of candidates received offer letters from IT, ITeS, automobile, retail, media and logistics companies.
“The response from freshers is very good. There is so much positive energy. There was a huge response from other cities such as Bangalore and Coimbatore,” said Raja Raguram, senior manager, HR, FSS.
“There is a need to conduct such job fairs in tier-II cities. Most companies did not hire in 2012, 2013 and 2014. So many are jobless,” he added.
“There is lot of awareness now. Growth prospects are high. But matching talent with requirement is a challenge,” said Tony Jacob Joseph, Director-Recruiting, Sutherland Global Services.
S. Balaji, a B.Tech graduate who received a provisional offer letter as a consultant, said the job fair provided better exposure for students.
ITeS companies, including Sutherland, CSS, Ajuba, Merit, Dell, Mphasis, Sitel, Unisys, Infosys BPO and Genpact, and IT companies such as FSS, Bosch and HCL participated. Companies such as Arvind, Alstom and TVS also participated.
Candidates are requested to carry multiple copies of their resume and passport-size photographs for interviews to be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
