Climate change and health are closely related, and the study of non-communicable diseases and contagious diseases in relation to environmental conditions is key, said vice-chancellor of Sri Ramachandra University, J.S.N Murthy.
He was speaking at the National Orientation Workshop for finalising an activity guidebook for the National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC), held here on Thursday.
By coming up with a proper communication plan that will reach the grassroots, it is possible to raise awareness on climate change and energy consumption amongst the people, founder trustee of CERD/Pondicherry Science Forum, Tamil Nadu Science Forum, C.E. Karunakaran, said.
From December 27 to 31 every year, children from 36 states, 1,200 Kendriya Vidyalayas and over 700 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas congregate at the Children’s Science Congress to present their experiments. This year, NCSTC has chosen ‘understanding weather, climates and climate change’ as the theme, director/scientist F of NCSTC, D.K. Pandey, said.
Ahead of the science congress, the NCSTC prepares the activity guidebook for the students. Using the guidelines provided in the book, children from various districts will be encouraged to perform experiments at a district level. The district winners will go on to the State-level competition and the winners of that round will attend the national-level Children’s Science Congress, Mr. Pandey said.
At the end of the three-day workshop, the guidebook will be finalised. The workshop was organised by Pondicherry Science Forum.
