The Slovenian Film Festival organised by the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia, New Delhi, the Consulate in Chennai and the Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation (ICAF) is back in the city for the second time at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture.

On till Wednesday, the festival offers a line-up of four contemporary full-length feature films, many of which have won awards.

The Ambassador of the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia, New Delhi, Darja Bavdaz Kuret inaugurated the event and noted that Slovenia would be celebrating 20 years of independence in a couple of days.

Talking about her nation, she said, “Though we are a young country, our culture has roots as far back as the 9th century BC. Our language, identity and modes of expression are distinctive.” She hoped that through the festivals, a little bit of Slovenia could be presented to India.

Presiding over the function, Sivan Kannan, president of ICAF, wished that the festival would function as a bridge between Slovenia and India, paving the way for a tradition of cultural exchange in the coming years.

E Thangaraj even mentioned including Slovenian films in the upcoming annual Chennai International Film Festival.

The films, which will be screened over the next two days, span multiple genres including drama, fantasy, and comedy. One of them is a silent film. The movies being exhibited are ‘Good Night Missy’, ‘Feed Me With Your Words’, ‘Silent Sonata’ and ‘Vesna’. All of them engage with contemporary themes.

The function also saw the TV anchor Ramya Subramaniam, honorary consul of the Republic of Slovenia in Chennai Amit Goel and RSK Lakshmana Prabhu, co-chairman of the SNA College of Engineering, extending their support and endorsement for the festival.
