The construction work of a space gallery, a project of Tamil Nadu Science and Technology Centre (TNSTC) in collaboration with Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) at a cost of Rs.50 lakh, is nearing completion.
Models of Satellite Launch Vehicle (SLV), Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV), and Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) will be on display.
A scale-down model of SLV 1.6, 10 metres in length, will be kept in a horizontal position, to explain the first, second and third stages of a rocket. Also, there is a mock-up control room to explain the launch of a rocket into space and observation of its trajectory.
DRDO pavilion
More than 70 per cent of the work has been completed in setting up a Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) pavilion on TNSTC campus.
The pavilion will showcase the works undertaken by the DRDO in more than its 50 laboratories across the nation in the field of aeronautics, armaments, electronics, combat vehicles, engineering systems, missiles, naval systems, life sciences, and agriculture.
One of the models explains how a special suit designed by DRDO was worn by Indian soldiers deployed at Siachen Glacier, to protect them against the freezing temperature.
Work at both the space gallery and DRDO pavilion is expected to complete by August end or first week of September.
