The problems of residents of Semmancheri, a housing Board area, seem to be endless. They are put to immense hardships due to slow pace of road laying work, incomplete underground drainage facility, and lack of bus services.
The roads are in such a condition that it is impossible to travel. People go through Perumbakkam Main Road to reach Sholinganallur. Travelling on the road is an ordeal. During the monsoon, the situation is even worse.
The authorities should implement the road-laying work immediately so that the general public can heave a high sigh of relief, “It is more than a month since the work on laying the road was started. Share-autos and other vehicles refuse to ply citing poor conditions. Two-wheeler riders, are exposed to the risk of skidding,” B. Kalimuthu said. “Added to this is the absence of street-lights, which makes it even more difficult for pedestrians and motorists. The authorities concerned should take steps to speed the road laying work,” he added.
“We moved here in 2004. Good roads are a long-pending demand of the residents of Semmancheri. ” E. Govindamma said.
The road is uneven, with potholes and unfit for travel. Residents staying near the road complained that the workers have encroached the entrance of their house.
“The underground drainage facility, which is supposed to collect rain water remains incomplete. It is a fine breeding ground for mosquitoes. Mosquitoes swarm in at dusk and we are forced to keep our windows and doors closed, “ C.Mathiazhagan said.
Inadequate bus services
Lack of bus services is a major concern among commuters who depend on public transport system to reach their destinations.
Travelling on footboard and overcrowding in buses, especially during peak hours are common scenes here. “Less buses ply on this stretch than the required services. Residents feel there is a need to introduce services to areas such as Semmancheri- Kelambakkam, Thiruvanmiyur, Broadway, Tambaram, Koyambedu, and Sholinganallur.
“Commuters face untold hardship enroute to Adyar, and Guindy. School and college students travel on footboard putting their lives at risk,” says A. Selvam, a regular MTC user. There is a need to increase frequency of services to facilitate commuters, he added.
