If you can gobble up your food, head to Peaches for the Barrito Challenge this month.
A few tricks combined with an unshakable passion for food have been the success formula of these three engineering students who started Peaches, a restaurant in Velachery. A look at the menu will reveal the out-of-box idea that has worked in their kitchen — a wide range of vegetarian and vegan world cuisine is what is offered here. But it was only during their first anniversary that the owners pulled up the mother of all tricks.
Walk into the restaurant in the month of September, pull out a chit from a box and you can win discounts on food and even some goodies. The best part of the bet: if you are a fast eater, either out of habit or because you don’t wish to share your food, you might just get to eat for free.
“As part of the anniversary celebrations, we are organising El Macho, Barrito Challenge. Those who can eat up 1.5 kg of Burrito in 30 minutes can have it for free, else they will have to pay Rs. 499. They will also have their picture put up on the Wall of Fame and at the end of the month the fastest eater will get a surprise,” says Raghu Viswanathan, who along with Venkatesh Kannan and Niranjan Tata, runs the joint.
The three were classmates in an engineering college. All food lovers, they wanted to start their own restaurant and thus they opened Peaches in September 2012. As it was their first venture they did not hesitate to promoted the restaurant with an interesting menu and fun concepts.
They say that the Barrito Challenge has taken fun to another level.
“We have had 44 challengers so far. One gentleman finished the challenge in 18 minutes, but recently another challenge demolished the record in 14 minutes. To spice things up, we plan to have a face-off between the two on the last day of the month. Till then, we will be glad to get more challengers,” says Raghu.
Peaches is at No.81, 9th Cross Street,Rajalakshmi Nagar, 100 Feet by Pass Road, Velachery.
