The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Adyar), R. S. Sudhakar, has said that Adyar Police will beef up security in Adyar and its neighbouring areas to prevent any untoward incident during the New Year eve on Monday.

He said bars/resorts should not be operated after 12.30 a.m. The Chennai Traffic Police will conduct an intensive drive on East Coast Road and other areas to check drunken driving and over-speeding.

“To ensure that motorists never indulged in drunken driving after the New Year bash, vehicle checks would be organised. Motorists found driving or riding their vehicles under the influence of alcohol would have to face legal action,” he pointed out.

Police personnel would be involved in bandobust duty on the night of December 31, and would be deployed at Annai Vailankanni Shrine, Besant Nagar, and Church of Our Lady of Health, Little Mount, Saidapet, he added.

Stern action would be initiated against those found indulging in eve teasing in public places.

Action would be taken against those who trouble the public or hinder vehicular movement in an inebriated state.
