Rotary Club of Nanganallur recently conducted a Health Awareness Programme about the dengue viral fever at Ranjani Hall, Nanganallur. Dr. P. Gunasekaran, Director-in-charge, King Institute of Preventive Medicines and Research, Guindy, demonstrated the live mosquito larvae formation and also gave a power point presentation.
In his address, Dr. Gunasekaran explained about the kinds of dengue viruses, transmission and life cycles. The egg larvae breed into mosquito within a span of eight to 10 days. As water is the source for breeding, necessary precautions should be taken to prevent water stagnation. He praised the Rotary International for its contribution/grant towards research and developmental activities.
Resource Chairman, Rotary International District 3230, N. Suresh Joshi, in his address, praised Rotary Club of Nanganallur for arranging such an awareness programme in the RI District 3230. Special invitee lecturer, Vision Screening and Coordinator, Elite School of Optometry, Sankara Nethralaya, Anuradha, explained about comprehensive eye examination.
Earlier, the Rotary Club of Nanganallur president V.S. Ravindran presented the welcome address. Dr. V. Thiagarajan of BM Hospital and Chairman of Happy Village interacted with Dr. Gunasekaran in handling the patients affected by dengue fever and about measures being adopted in the hospitals.
Programme coordinator Dr. Jayakumar, Director-Community Service Health of Madan Homeo Clinic, explained briefly about the experiments being conducted with the association of King Institute for eradication of dengue fever with the homeopathic medicines.
