State Bank Retired and Serving Employees’ Forum (SBRSEF) joined by the students of Don Bosco Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Egmore, conducted a Road Safety and Traffic Rules Awareness Programme in front of the school on February 6.
More than 200 school students, holding placards with informative messages and slogans stood in front of the school premises to create awareness among motorists and other road users.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) S. Sivanandam, who inaugurated the campaign, provided vital statistics related to road accidents. He distributed pamphlets and handbills to students that carried useful information of all traffic symbols and provided necessary tips to pedestrians. Assistant Commissioner of Police (Triplicane) K. Soundararajan also participated.
Don Bosco School Principal, Y.L. Irudayaraj appreciated the role played by SBRSEF in creating awareness among students on road safety and traffic rules.
Secretary of the forum, R. Mohanakrishnan, addressing the students, stressed on the imperative need to follow traffic rules and road safety and take an active role in spreading the message to other road users.
He said that SBRSEF has all along been raising these issues and conducting various awareness programmes with the help of school children from various city and suburban schools.
It may be recalled that the SBRSEF has successfully conducted more programmes on issues concerning society and civic matters. Incidentally this is the 115 awareness programme on road safety and traffic rules and the organisers said the forum has enjoyed the full-hearted support of the public and the police.
