As part of the Road Safety Week celebrations, Regional Transport Office, Thiruvanmiyur, in association with Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital Limited, Cathedral Road, conducted a free eye camp on Thursday (January 3). It was inaugurated by M. Gunasekaran, Regional Transport Officer, Thiruvanmiyur. More than 100 people from in and around Thiruvanmiyur participated in the camp and medicines were distributed free of cost to the needy.
Various opthamological tests for vision deficiencies, cataract and glaucoma, were done. An one-day session on first-aid, to enable the public to take basic life-saving measures, by St. John’s Ambulance Association was conducted. A free health camp in association by Malar Fortis Hospital, exhibition on road safety in collaboration with Indian Road Transport Institute, Taramani, and a free vehicle emission checking tests were part of the event. An oratorical and essay competition for students of Nellai Nadar Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Kottivakkam, will be held on Monday (January 7).
At Sholinganallur
The 24th Road Safety Week observance by the Transport Department Unit Office, Sholinganallur, began on Tuesday. The celebration was inaugurated by Paneerselvam, Joint Commissioner, Regional Transport Office, K. K. Nagar, and Dinakar, Regional Transport Officer, Tambaram. Pamphlets on road safety were distributed. On Wednesday, a free eye camp was conducted in association with Sankara Eye Hospital, Pammal. It was attended by more than 100 people and spectacles were distributed free to the poor.
Free health camps were conducted by Global Hospitals, Perumbakkam, and Arima Sangam, Rotary Club, on Thursday and Friday. On jan. 7, a rally to create awareness about the need to use helmets will be taken out on Rajiv Gandhi Salai.
