Thiruvengada Nagar residents in Ambattur are upbeat over the development of a park in their locality. Due to persistent efforts of the Residents Welfare Association for the past two years, civic authorities have finally taken up measures to put up a park on an open land marked for the same, in the colony. The work on the park, with an outlay of Rs. 50 lakh, which began in the third week of December 2012 is nearing completion (70 per cent work completed).
The features to be included in the project are walkers' pathway, children's play area and a yoga stage. The park is now taking shape.
Plans are underway to plant medicinal plants in the lawn area. A couple of toilets are also getting ready.
According to S. Suresh, Secretary, Thiruvengada Nagar Residents Welfare Association, engineers who are involved in the project are going about it with a passion and executing every detail meticulously.
He also added that the residents expressed their thankfulness towards the mayor and also the officials involved in the project.
He recalled that in 2010, joining hands with erstwhile Ambattur Municipality, the association developed a roadside park under ‘Namakku Naamey Thittam', at a cost of Rs. 4.8 lakh.
"We are told that the park would be thrown open for public use from May 15," said Mr. Suresh.
