The third quarterly meeting of the R.A. Puram Residents’ Association was held on October 14, 11 a.m. at Mahalakshmi Hall, Park View Road. Attended by more than 100 residents, the meet focussed on traffic and civic issues. Jhansi Rani, Councillor of Ward 123; Rajendran, Deputy Commissioner, Traffic; S. Sampath, Assistant Commissioner, Corporation Zone 9; representatives from Ramky and others participated.

The residents requested the concerned authorities concerned to put an end to stray cattle menace and haphazard parking of cars on IV and II Cross Road, R.A. Puram. “Vehicles speed across the roads and there is a need to put up speed breakers, Also since the old ones need to be repainted, they go unnoticed,” complained the residents.

Following problems faced by the residents were brought to the notice of the concerned authorities by its members

The residents were also not happy with the ongoing storm water work in the area. They said, “Ön First Cross Road, the drain which is being laid has not been given a proper slope. Whenever muck is removed from the drain, it is strewn around and not removed immediately.” They also suggested that storm water could be harvested by creating sand beds on either side of the road to encourage percolation.

The officials in their reply promised to remedy the situation

Mr. Sampath promised to complete the storm water work in the area as early as possible. Mr. Rajendran, while addressing the problem of parked cars, said, “Plans are afloat to introduce ITMS (Integrated Traffic Management system) in the city within two to three months. This will definitely help to keep a check on illegally parked cars in the busy commercial areas.”

Mukund of Ramky Enviro Engineers, in charge for garbage collection in this zone, said that they will inform about the time of garbage collection to the residents.

There was also a lecture on ‘Care of the Kidney’ by Dr. Edwin Fernades, Professor of Nephrology from Stanley Medical College. R. Sampath, a senior resident of R.A. Puram, was honoured with a citation.
