Avadi is home to many Defence establishments and also houses the Central and State Police Training Centres. There are numerous schools and colleges in the area as well. Though the roads are in tolerably good condition, the small, but very busy stretch of about 150 metres between the Avadi bus stand and the entry arch of HVF Estate lies in a state of total neglect.
“The road leads to many establishments attached to the Heavy Vehicles Factory [HVF]. It turns into a slushy wet land on rainy days and on sunny days into a desert of loose dust. Motorists find it difficult to navigate this road,” says Rettavayal S. Krishnaswamy, a resident of Madipakkam, who frequents Avadi and its neighbourhood.
“On August 19, two buses were stuck on the road as the trench dug for laying cables caved in. The road has turned into a nightmare for all users,” he adds. Residents Welfare Association member, S. Thirumalai from Thirumullaivoyal suggests that the Defence Estate Office, State Highways Department and Avadi Municipality carry out the remainder of road laying work and set things right at the earliest.
