Nearly five months after Rajasthan Cosmo Club Platinum started ‘Muskaan’ to reach out to orphanages, the members are showing how little deeds of kindness and words of love can make a difference. The initiative is led by 170 members of the ladies circle of the club, a majority of who reside in Purusawalkam, Kilpauk and T. Nagar, that meets once a month to chalk out various outreach programmes.

“We raise money through cash or kind. There is no minimum or maximum amount that one is expected to give, everyone is free to contribute as they wish,” says Nisha Singhvi, ladies wing director, RCC Platinum. The larger motive of Muskaan is to go beyond monetary donations and give residents love and affection.

For instance, in August members visited Sri Ramakrishna Atmalayam, Sholavaram. From donating items of necessity to the orphanage, they also conducted games for the children.

At Asha Nivas, Aminjikarai, the team conducted a craft workshop, where the girls were taught to make photo frames, paper bags, gift boxes and envelopes.

“We take great care in choosing a centre that is really in need. Especially those on the outskirts of the city need more assistance,” says Ms. Nisha.

In September, Muskaan plans to set up a library in a Corporation school.
