If an institution can play a huge role in laying the strong foundation for a student, here is one. Started four years ago by G. Kamal, Sa Ri Ga Ma Institute of Music and Dance in Chintadripet seems to have done reasonably well in educating the young minds in the nuances of music.

Kamal, who was born into the family of mrudangist Veerabadran, says he used to bicycle to Teynampet to learn from his guru Master Jayasuriyan. “I was inspired by his teachings and this instilled in me the confidence to start a music school in Chintadripet” says Kamal, a senior trainer. “These children should not be deprived of their chance to learn quality music.”

Over the years, it has formulated a syllabus for music and dance and orchestra. With state-of-the-art practice rooms, good acoustics and experienced teachers, the institute should be a great learning place. It offers classes in keyboard, guitar, drums, vocal music, piano, Bharatanatyam and western dance. It also guides and grooms students to pursue international certification examination conducted by Trinity College of Music - London.

Sa Ri Ga Ma Institute of Music and Dance is located at 15/37, Audiyappa Street, Chintadripet. Contact numbers: 28454353 / 98402 45459.
