The long-pending demand of the residents of Kandaswamy Nagar, and Bharathi Nagar, Palavakkam, for tar and cement roads will be met soon.

The road laying work in both the areas has begun in full swing by the Chennai Corporation.

According to D. Viswanathan, Councillor, 185 Division, Zone 14, the works are being carried out on Third and Fourth Street, Kandaswamy Nagar, and First to Fifth Street, Bharathi Nagar, at a total cost of Rs.10 lakh.

The road-laying work, which commenced in December, would be completed soon.

In January-February, tar work in Periyar Salai and Dr. Kalaignar Karunanidhi Salai, Palavakkam, will be taken up. A tar road has been laid on MGR Salai, Palavakkam, at a cost of Rs. 84 lakh.

“I appreciate the steps taken by the civic body to relay the roads in Palavakkam.

Two-wheeler riders found it difficult to negotiate through the roads. Pedestrians are prone to hit by vehicles, which were driven haphazardly to avoid the ditches and potholes,” S. Kannan, a resident of Palavakkam, said.
