To sensitise the public on the revised fare for autorickshaws, the Chennai Traffic Police (CTP) have installed LED boards in Tamil and English on Rajiv Gandhi Salai. Information pertaining to the new tariff system includes a display of helpline numbers – 9003130103, 23452330 – which commuters can use to report auto drivers who don’t follow the new rates.
The boards will be soon put up in other areas and also on arterial roads, CTP Officials said. The Transport Department had earlier come up with its helpline numbers (24749002 and 26744445) to help the public lodge any complaint against auto-rickshaw drivers who do not comply with the revised fares.
In addition, traffic personnel attached to Anna Nagar, Thirumangalam, and Aminjikarai Traffic Station have been conducting awareness meetings with auto-drivers, and distributing pamphlets on the new rates. Recently, the Thiruvanmiyur Wing of Chennai Traffic Police distributed pamphlets to residents door-to-door at Park Royale Apartments, Valmiki Nagar, Thiruvanmiyur. The pamphlets contain details of revised fare table for auto-rickshaws fitted with electronic digital meters.
“We plan to conduct more awareness rallies on the revised fares. We will educate the residents on the new tariff system during our weekly meetings with Residents’ Welfare Associations in Thiruvanmiyur. Moreover, awareness banners have been put up at traffic signal junctions in Thiruvanmiyur, ‘ A.Sunderraj, Inspector, Thiruvanmiyur Traffic Station, Chennai Traffic Police. The Neelankarai Wing of Chennai Traffic Police has put up a vinyl hoarding awareness banner on a van, covering Kottivakkam, Palavakkam, Neelankarai, Injambakkam, Vettuvankeni, Panaiyur, and Muttukadu.
