Writer and historian K. R. A. Narasaih said we paid lip service to heritage and showed an unwillingness to preserve it. He was speaking at the inauguration of a Heritage Club by the Department of History at Meenakshi College for Women (MCW), Kodambakkam.

Narasaiah said Africa led India in preserving its heritage.

He said that that we lacked a proper understanding of heritage. We equated it with architecture, forgetting that it also encompassed culture and traditions followed for generations.

T. Sathyamurthy, founder, Reach Foundation, Chennai, said, the youth should be made aware of India’s ancient heritage.

On the occasion, a Memorandum of Understanding between Reach Foundation and MCW was signed by T. Sathyamurthy and K. S. Lakshmi, Secretary, MCW, on educating students about conserving heritage monuments.

The Heritage Club activities include study tours to excavation sites, technical classes, power point presentations and weekly seminars on culture and heritage.
