After a long wait, a request from residents of Koyambedu and Padikuppam have been met. The civic authorities have constructed railings along the Rail Nagar Bridge, connecting Padikuppam and Koyambedu. A similar one was constructed near Padikuppam Main Road this February.
“Now we can use the bridge without fear of falling ,” says S. Vasuki, a resident of Padikuppam. The railing near Padikuppam has been painted and has reflectors on it. “This would help motorists a lot during night,” she added.
A number of school children use the bridge and they don’t have to worry now. “Children came with their parents to cross the bridge. Now they can walk safely,” says Manimegalai, another resident of Padikuppam. Spending for safety of the road users will not be considered as waste of money.
This railing will save many lives in future, she added. Drivers of Light Motor Vehicles are also benefited as they can now sense the danger on seeing the railing with the help of reflectors.
Previously, they used to drive in fear of colliding with the vehicles in the opposite direction, sad Sebastian, an auto driver from Sathya Nagar.
