From eight employees, Rajan Eye Care Hospital has grown into a full-fledged 150-member tertiary health care. And the hospital is all set to commemorate its 17th year with a year-long list of celebratory programmes. A slew of community-friendly initiatives are expected to be launched in this year.
It was on June 2, 1995 that the hospital began operations in a two-storeyed building in T.Nagar, with one operation theatre, four in-patient rooms and eight staff. Today, it has expanded to a 25,000 sq.ft. space with over 150 staff, 15 consultants and 18 optometrists. “We have grown into a full-fledged tertiary health care,” says Mohan Rajan, chairman and medical director of Rajan Eye Care Hospital. It has four branches in the city and one in Nellore. In the next two years, the hospital is expected to open branches in Bangalore, Tiruchi and Coimbatore.
Talking about its journey, Dr. Rajan says it is “quality, ethics and personal care” offered at each of its branches that has taken the brand to this level. “My dreams have become a reality. We have been able to give back to the community through our various initiatives,” he says.
One of its main objectives in its 18th year is to reach out to more people with affordable treatment. To start with, a state-of-the-art machine for Femto-Lasik procedure has been bought from Germany. “This is a bladeless lasik surgery. Because of the cost involved in the surgery, it was beyond the reach of many people. We are bringing the cost down so that more people can benefit from the procedure,” says Dr. Mohan Rajan. After performing thousands of cataract surgeries free of cost, the focus is next on the retina. The hospital has acquired more machines whereby surgeries on the retina can be performed. In the last week of June, it will be launching ‘Rajan Retina Foundation’.
It also plans to reach out to more people in rural pockets through ‘Nethra Vahana.
