Delay in completion of stormwater drain work at the busy Thambiah Road in West Mambalam has left residents furious. It is over a month since one stretch of the road, nearly 100 metres, was dug up for reconstruction of the existing stormwater drain but the work is progressing at a snail pace.
It is a challenge for motorists heading towards Ayodhya Mandapam and those moving to Duraiswamy Subway as the work have eaten up a good portion of the road. It gets worse during peak hours as the stretch is used by many school vans and office vehicles.
S.Anusha, a resident of the street, says the dust is adding to the chaos. “We cannot keep our doors and windows open. And, it gets very stuffy when there is a power cut.”
For residents of apartment complex the plight is even worse. Wooden planks have become indispensible to get to the road. Some of the houses have parked their vehicles elsewhere.
K. Prakash, who runs a mechanic workshop, is praying that the Corporation completes the present work before digging the road before his shop. “Before monsoon strikes, the officials must ensure the work is completed,” he adds.
