A downpour means an end to a day of business on Village Road. Vipasha Sinha reports
On any other day Village Road can be seen buzzing with activity, as the shops and restaurants here serve patrons from 10 a.m. till late night. However, come rain and most shops pull the shutters down as the entire stretch gets inundated with rainwater. However, the residents and shop owners hope that things will be better this year after the completion of storm water drainage work.
Mukesh N. Dolia of New Optical Palace, who is doing business here for the past 15 years, says, “When it rains, the water invades the shop and we have to shut the place and go home.”
However, others feel that things have changed for the better.
“Earlier the problem was that the rainwater would take days to drain, but now though the road is flooded when it rains, it drains comparatively faster,” says R. Mani, who owns an accessories store.
