In a collective effort, hundreds of students from T.I. Matriculation Higher Secondary School organised a two-day carnival exhibiting and selling works done by them. The proceeds of this event will go towards a good cause. “We plan to fund the education of a poor child for a year with the money. As of now, we have estimated that we may get around Rs. 50,000 but only by the end of the carnival can we be sure of it,” said V.Nanda Kishore, the school’s head boy.
In fact, the students themselves made balance sheets and extensive calculation to look at the expenses and proceeds, said Varsha Baskar, the school’s head girl. “We will also see if there is money left to do something more than education and also pitch in for some extra-curricular activity,” she said.
From Mehendi to nail art, greeting cards to paintings, games to music shows, they did it all by themselves. R.M. Meiyammi, a class VIII student, said she and 12 friends systematically invested three hours a day for a week and made them. Principal Sheela Ragavan said, “We gave them money for the raw material and we would deduct this money from the entire collection. The final proceeds will be put for a good cause.”
