C.S. Mehta has set up a free buttermilk stall on Barnaby Road, Kilpauk. Started in 1995, the stall is thronged by people from all walks of life.

“The stall, set up in April, will be around till the end of May every year. Every day, around 180 litres of buttermilk is served free and I ensure that quality buttermilk is served,” says Mehta. The buttermilk is laced with curry leaves, coriander, salt and asafoetida.

From May 4 (Agni Natchathiram), free buttermilk in sachets will be distributed to MTC crew and commuters at the Kilpauk Medical College bus stop.

B. Venkatesh, an autorickshaw driver and a resident of Aynavaram, says: “The buttermilk is good. Whenever I drive through Barnaby Road, I make it a point to have a glass of buttermilk.’

People from Ambattur and Aynavaram are also regular to the stall.
