Bus passenger robbed

A bus passenger was robbed of Rs. 1.2 lakh after his attention was diverted while he was travelling in a State government bus in a very short distance between Vandalur and Perungalathur recently. Peerkankaranai police said Ramaputhiran of Saligramam in the city, had gone to Ginjee in Villupuram District. He pledged some gold jewellery belonging to his family and got Rs. 2.2 lakh.

He returned to Chennai on the evening of January 9. He kept Rs. 1 lakh inside his shirt, wrapping it in a piece of cloth, while he carried the remaining amount in a bag. He reached Tindivanam, from where he took another bus to Chennai. He placed the bag containing the cash on the rack above the seats.

At Vandalur, a group of men boarded the bus.

They threw a few notes on the floor of the bus below Ramaputhiran’s seat and asked him if it belonged to him.

The passenger’s attention was diverted and be bent to pick up the notes. The group then got down at Perungalathur, while Ramaputhiran slept until he reached Koyambedu and was shocked not to find his bag. He returned to Peerkankaranai police station, where a case has been registered. Crime teams are working on the case.
