Once the cut-off mark for Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission is announced, parents and students rack their brains over finding the right college and course. Brothers Ramnath Babu and Raghunath Babu have launched >www.tneahelp.in to reduce this anxiety.
The online resource guides engineering aspirants through the admission process, by providing information on available college options and answering questions about prospects in different branches of engineering. ‘TNEA-college finder’, a highlight of the website, is where a student needs to key in his or her cut-off mark, the category they belong and a few other details such as the district they are looking for. And presto, they get a list of colleges. Also, the number of students who have equal and more than the cut-off marks are listed.
Raghunath came up with the idea after he faced difficulties in finding all about the colleges.
He got admission into Anna University College of Engineering (electrical engineering) in 2006. While >www.tnea.com does offers details on which colleges one can get into depending on the cut-off, their website scores with its many other user-friendly features.
“The single window counselling is of help to students but there is very limited time for one to make up one one’s mind about a course,” says Raghunath, who recently completed his MBA from IIM-Ahmedbad.
He oversees the design part of the site. His brother, now studying at Indian Institute of Science - Bangalore, does the coding.
Although the website was initially started in May 2010 with a 300 MB bandwidth, it crashed in four days.
They later upgraded it to unlimited bandwidth and have added many new features.
The website gives an overview on availability of seat and counselling trends.
For TNEA2012, the website received close to six lakh visitors. The ‘discussion forum’ is aimed at clarifying students’ doubts. Students currently pursuing degrees in engineering will answer questions.
