G. Manilal, a resident of 61/4, VGP Complex, First Avenue, Ashok Nagar, received the Priyadharshini Indira Gandhi Award from International Integrity Peace and Friendship on October 13 for his social work. The award was presented by Dr. K. Rosaiah, Tamil Nadu Governor.

Manilal is Vice District Governor of Lions Club International. He has been conducting various awareness programmes on health, culture and providing medical and educational assistances to the underprivileged. He has also undertaken welfare steps for the physically challenged by providing tri-cycles, hearing-aid machine, sewing machines etc.

Mr. Manilal joined Lions International in 1994, and served as a president, zone chairman, region chairman and district chairman. He is also a recipient of Kalaimamani Award conferred by the Tamil Nadu Government and Seva Ratna by Parthasarathy International Cultural Academy. He released a book on ‘Sight First,’ which contains information about eye hospitals and treatments offered.
