Art club completes 25 years

Adyar Art Club, as part of its silver jubilee celebration, will organise a painting exhibition on January 12 and 13 at Art Houz. Works in different medium such as water colour, poster colour, acrylic, oil, pencil, charcoal, Indian ink, crayons, pastels, colour pencils and others will be on display. Renowned illustrator Shri Jeyaraj will inaugurate the event.

During the event, artists who are octogenarians — Gopulu, Sankaran, Vikraman, Maniam Selvan will be honoured and Maniam Selvan will present prizes to winners of an art competition which was conducted on December 15 for school students at Andal Kalyana Mandapam, Adyar. Renowned illustrator Jeyaraj will inaugurate the event.

Artists —Shanta Dhananjayan, Natyaacharya V P Dhananjayan, Subha, Vikraman, Shankaran , Shri Gopulu and Maniam Selvan will preside over the programme.

Adyar Art Club was found by Lakshmi Raghavan in 1987 with an objective of nurturing art and honing the aesthetic skills of children between seven and 15 years of age. Today this academy has students from seven to 80 years of age learning different forms of painting such as Tanjore painting, Mysore painting, glass painting, fabric painting, pencil shading, sketching, Kalamkari, mural (Kerala and Ajenta), pastels, water colour, acrylic colour, oil colour, metal embossing, Kundan work, mirror painting, reverse glass painting, calligraphy and others.
