As part of the Madras Week initiatives, city-based architect Thirupurasundari Sevvel is working towards documenting Anna Nagar in the form of a blog site. At present, she is gathering data about Anna Nagar.

Until the 1950s, the area was called Naduvakkarai, and Anna Nagar was developed by the Tamil Nadu Housing Board in the early 1970s following the 1968 World Trade Fair conducted in the area.

For an extensive knowledge about Anna Nagar, she has sought people and invited pictures and documents relating to it.

She collects old invitations, post cards, telegrams, old pictures of school functions or marriage photos, old photographs of places and buildings and everything else that contributes effectively to documentation.

“As a person living in Anna Nagar, I was curious to know how it developed and what the starting point was,” she said.

“When I had a chat with Mr. Vincent D. Souza about what I can do for Madras Day he gave this idea. I went to a lot of old places and old residents in Anna Nagar and collected information and data,” Ms. Thirupurasundari said.
