March 16, 2014 03:16 pm | Updated May 19, 2016 09:08 am IST - KANCHEEPURAM:

The Baluchettychatram police arrested three persons hailing from Melvangaram near Baluchettychatram on Saturday after the accused were found in possession of a country-made gun without a valid license.

According to police, the zonal Deputy Tasildar, Kancheepuram, V. Shankar, heading an election flying squad attached to the Kanchepuram Assembly segment, handed over three persons — Maivannan, Balaji and Arunkumar — all residents of Melvangaram, to the Baluchettychatram police.

He also filed a complaint stating that the trio were seen hunting birds at Muttavakkam around noon using a country-made gun.

When the trio were asked why they had not surrendered the weapon to police in view of the elections, the men claimed that they were not the owners of the gun and gunpowder.

However, they also refused to divulge any information about how they acquired it.
