Spate of chain-snatchings in Chennai

Motorcycle-borne chain snatchers ran riot in the city on Saturday.

Nine women pedestrians in different places, including Anna Nagar, Aynavaram and Kilpauk, were robbed of their gold chains, weighing more than 45 sovereigns, in total.

According to the police, in three cases reported in Anna Nagar West in the morning, snatchers fled with five sovereigns each from women walking on N Block, F Block and 9 Main Road, respectively. The involvement of the same culprits is suspected in all three spots. In similar, separate incidents in Muthraman Nagar and on Mettu Street, Ayanavaram, the same morning, men on motorcycles snatched 10-sovereign and four-sovereign chains, respectively, from women pedestrians.

Incidents of snatching were also reported in ICF, Kilpauk, Royapettah and Ambattur on Saturday, said the police. Investigation is on.
