Five special teams of the government railway police (GRP) are probing Monday’s incident wherein a woman software professional was pushed out of a moving suburban train by a thief. The victim remains in hospital and is stable.

The incident took place around 10 p.m. on Monday when Muneeshwari Nagaraj (28), a software engineer, was travelling in the ladies’ compartment of the suburban train from Tambaram Sanatorium.

After the train passed Park station, a young man snatched her five-sovereign gold chain.

She fought back when he attempted to grab her handbag but he pushed her from the moving train. Muneeshwari broke her left arm and was admitted to the Government Stanley Hospital.

The Egmore GRP say they are examining CCTV footage from various stations on the way to Fort to determine the suspect.

Railway police personnel in plainclothes have also been posted inside train compartments in an attempt to nab the suspect, the police said.
