Man gets 10 years RI for rape, kidnap of minor

A 31-year-old man from Tindivanam was sentenced by a Mahila Court here on Wednesday to undergo 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor girl in 2009.

According to the prosecution, M. Murugan was living near the residence of the 14-year-old girl in Perambur. While she was going to school, he kidnapped her, took her to his native village near Tindivanam and held her captive in a house there. He sexually assaulted her.

Following a complaint from the girl’s mother, Kolathur Police traced the whereabouts of Murugan and the girl.

The police charged him under Sections 366(A) (procuration of minor girl) and 376 (punishment for rape) of Indian Penal Code.

Holding Murugan guilty, Mahila Court Judge Meena Satheesh also imposed a fine of Rs.20,000 on him.

Correction

The report referred to charges under Section 366(A) (procreation of minor girl). It should have been Section 366(A) (procuration of minor girl).
