A 42-year-old woman died on Monday after a speeding load van, laden with cylinders, ran into a crowd waiting at a bus stop on Dr. Vijayaraghavalu Road in Old Washermanpet.

Three others survived the accident with minor injuries.

The Washermanpet traffic police identified the victim as Tripurasundari, a resident of Sajja Munusamy Street, Old Washermenpet. She, along with a few others, was waiting at the Pencil Factory bus stop when the accident occurred.

“Around 12.30 p.m., the van, driven by Vijayakumar (32), took a swift turn on the road. The driver lost control and rammed into the crowd, badly injuring Tripurasundari and another woman identified as Sasikala (32). Two men escaped with bruises,” said an investigating officer.

Tripurasundari died on the way to Government Stanley Hospital, while Sasikala and Vijayakumar were admitted to the hospital for treatment. The conditions of the injured are known to be stable, sources said.
