July 23, 2014 08:19 am | Updated 08:19 am IST - CHENNAI:

The city police have revived its ‘Kandhu vatti’ unit, functioning under the Central Crime Branch, with a new helpline for victims of harassment by money-lenders. A loan shark has already been arrested.

The 24-hour helpline 044-25615086, monitored by the Commissioner of Police himself, will assist those who directly opt for police action or whose grievances have been declined by the local police.

On Tuesday, a team led by Deputy Commissioner (CCB) S. Jeyakumar apprehended financier Bhoologapandian (40) of Anna Nagar West.

His client, Kasi Viswanathan of Koyambedu, had borrowed Rs. 58 lakh in March 2012 and paid back Rs. 1.08 crore but Bhoologapandian insisted he pay another Rs. 1 crore.
