An eight-year-old girl was found dead in an irrigation well near Tiruttani on Monday. One person has been arrested in connection with the case. The victim Vanitha, a native of Wallajah taluk in Vellore, was visiting her grandfather in Perumalrajappettai village on the border of Vellore district with her younger brother. On Sunday evening, she went missing. Later, her body was found floating in a well a few kilo-metres from the house. Her earlobes had been chopped off and her gold earrings, weighing half a sovereign, were missing. Vanitha’s grandfather’s neighbour, a 40-year-old man, was last seen escorting the girl away from her brother. He was arrested and further investigation is on.
