The city police have registered a case against a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) on charges of assaulting his 24-year-old daughter.
The Royapettah police said they registered the case against D. Thanavel after his daughter lodged a complaint when she was taken to hospital with injuries on Thursday. The DSP was reportedly upset with his daughter for having a relationship with a youth. Along with his wife, he confined his daughter to a room and is reported to have assaulted her on the head with a cricket bat. She was also, reportedly, branded with an iron ladle on her legs.
The officer is attached to the Government Railway police in Trichy. A case under sections 324 and 342 of the Indian Penal Code (causing hurt and wrongful confinement) has been registered against him and his wife. An additional deputy superintendent of police has been assigned to the case, the police said.
