S. Sivalingam, a carpenter, was killed by a knife-wielding gang on 15th Street in J.J. Nagar on Friday.

Around 3 p.m., the 35-year-old victim, a resident of J.J. Nagar 14th Street, was returning after attending a funeral nearby when he was waylaid by a group of persons wielding knives. The group attacked him and then fled the spot.

On hearing Sivalingam’s cries, his brother arrived at the spot and took him to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital, where he was pronounced ‘brought dead’.

The J.J. Nagar police suspect previous enmity as the motive for the murder.

In another incident, D. Sakthivel (26), a daily wage labourer, was killed when a wall collapsed on him at a construction site located at Thangam Colony 30th Street, Anna Nagar West, on Friday.
