A 42-year-old advocate was beaten to death in a drunken brawl in Secretariat Colony, Kilpauk on Wednesday night.
The victim, Soundar Thangasamy of Vyasarpadi died, allegedly after an assault by four men, inside the office of a Tamil magazine on A.K. Swamy Nagar. The magazine was run by his friends Ranjith, Murugan, Bala and Socrates.
On Wednesday, the victim met the four men and a quarrel broke out between Soundar and Murugan. The other men reportedly assaulted Soundar, who died after sustaining critical injuries on his head and neck. The four men fled the scene immediately. Murugan (31) of Otteri was arrested on Thursday morning.
Probe sought into deathIn another incident, a 51-year-old advocate died after he allegedly fell at a client’s house in Kolathur on Thursday afternoon. Kamaraj (51) of Selaiyur slipped and fell and was severely injured. He was rushed to a private hospital in Thousand Lights where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
Meanwhile, a group of his friends approached the city police commissioner and demanded a detailed investigation into his death.
An officer said they received a petition from the advocates and an investigation was under way.
