Actor held for husband’s murder in Chennai

September 06, 2014 10:14 am | Updated 10:14 am IST - CHENNAI:

The city police nabbed a 22-year-old budding actor who was on the run after allegedly murdering her husband in January.

The actor was hiding in Bangalore, the police said. She was reportedly forced into prostitution by her husband.

According to the Maduravoyal police, Reynold (37), a Maduravoyal businessman, ran an internet browsing centre and was involved in online trading. He suffered heavy losses after his business deals with partner Umachandran of Tirunelveli flopped.

Following this, he forced his actor-wife into prostitution. Frustrated over Reynold’s actions, the actor teamed up with Umachandran and his aide Prinson, to kill Reynold. They poisoned and strangled Reynold to death on January 18.

“With the help of three others, they buried the body at an isolated location in Maharaja Nagar, Palayamkottai,” said an investigating officer.

Later, in an attempt to divert police attention, the actor approached the commissioner on February 1, and lodged a ‘missing’ complaint.

Detailed probe by the Palayamkottai police resulted in the arrest of the accomplices on May 10. Reynold’s body was exhumed two days later and a post-mortem was conducted. The case was transferred to the Maduravoyal police following which a city police team arrested Prinson.

After extensive search, the actor was traced to Bangalore and nabbed on Thursday evening. She was brought to Chennai on Friday.

Search is on for Umachandran, the prime suspect in the murder, and his aide Elisa.
