A broken thermos flask found lying abandoned near Adambakkam railway station kept the police on their toes on Wednesday morning.

Gang-man Pachaiyappan noticed the flask near the pedestrian subway at St. Thomas Mount railway station around 10 a.m. and alerted the police.

Staff from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Tambaram reached the spot along with experts from the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad.

Diana, a female canine detective from the RPF dog squad, was also brought to the spot.

After investigation, the flask was broken open. It contained only milk, an official said. The security personnel scanned the area and ruled out any risk.

Commuters can call the RPF and GRP helplines at 9003161710 and 9962500500 if they notice unclaimed, suspicious-looking objects lying around anywhere.
