Two persons were arrested for the murder of an AIADMK functionary in Thiruninravur on Wednesday.

The victim, Poochandran (52), from Mettu Colony in Thiruninravur, was travelling along the four road junction near Gomathi Road on Monday night, around 9.30 p.m., when the murder took place. He was intercepted by two men — Joseph Dev Kumar (30) and ‘Pallu’ Parthiban (28) — on a two-wheeler who attempted to rob him. When Poochandran resisted, the men attacked him with a knife. He was rushed to a local private hospital and later transferred to GH, where he died on Tuesday.

Following enquiries by the police, the accused were identified, arrested and remanded to custody.

The victim’s wife, Maragadavalli, is the Thiruninravur district panchayat counsellor.
